Alma Reyes, 22, of the 3700 block of South Pacific Highway, Medford, died at Providence Medford Medical Center Sunday morning. She was the passenger in a car that crashed into a concrete wall off Highway 99 near Ashland. The driver of the blue Ford Contour, 27-year-old Juan Gabriel Tamayo, of Los Angeles, died at the scene. Friends of Reyes and Tamayo told police that the two had been drinking in Ashland bars before the 2:45 a.m. crash. Driving north in the highway’s right lane, the car smashed into a concrete structure supporting the railroad bridge near Jackson road, said Capt. Joe Puckett of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Other drivers said Tamayo was speeding, Puckett said, adding that he didn’t know the car’s speed at the time of the crash. Paramedics took Reyes to Providence, but she died several hours later, Puckett said, adding that he did not know the extent of her injuries. Two teens were recovering in the hospital after a crash outside Medford early Saturday. Lisa Ann Wells, 17, of the 3600 block of Table Rock Road, Medford, and 18-year-old Timothy Andrew Hefley, of the 1800 block of Bigham Brown Road, Eagle Point, were listed in stable condition at Providence. Both were passengers in a Chevrolet extra-cab pickup truck driven by 18-year-old Nicolette D. Dickey. Dickey’s truck rolled over on a curve while she was driving on Foothill Road near Coker Butte Road around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. Wells, Hefley and 19-year-old Jackson Ray Plankenhorn were thrown from the vehicle. None of the four appeared to have been wearing their seat belts, Puckett said. Deputies at the scene said Dickey appeared disoriented, and Puckett said her blood-alcohol level was not available. Dickey who lives in the 2100 block of Corona Avenue in Medford, and Plankenhorn of the 3100 block of Corey Road, Central Point, were treated at Providence and released.
