Prep roundup Eagles win twice at Red Bluff tourney RED BLUFF, Calif. -- Eagle Point easily won its opening two baseball games of the season Friday, thumping West Valley, 15-2, and Las Plumas, 12-3, in the Red Bluff Tournament. Senior Mike Newmann paced the Eagles (2-1) against West Valley, going 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and a triple. His younger brother Nick, a junior, kept West Valley at bay from the mound with five strikeouts against four hits to gain the win. Mike Newmann and Evan Pogue each drove in two runs in the second, while B.J. McFall added the other RBI to put the Eagles up 5-0. In the second game against Las Plumas, Brian Strodthoff went the distance in a shortened game for the win -- striking out seven of the 25 batters faced. Mike Newmann and Nick Newmann chipped in RBI triples to pace Eagle Point. FIRST GAME Eagle Point ........050 406 0 -- 15 19 1 West Valley ...........000 101 0 -- 2 5 2 N.
