Freshman midfielder Kara Bradach scored twice (including the game-winner) and senior midfielder Marissa Gillingham had one goal and two assists to help the Raiders (2-6-1, 2-2) pull even with the second-place Owls (6-2, 2-2) in the hunt for a league playoff spot. Freshman forward Heather Olliffe staked OIT to a 1-nil lead less than four minutes into the contest by redirecting a Becky Schwartz cross past a diving Soo Lee, but Southern used dominating midfield play for a 31-10 shot advantage that peppered Tech goalie Nicole Pence for 74 minutes. The barrage resulted in an equalizing goal by junior all-star Katie Emerson in the 36th minute, and goalie-beaters from Bradach (49th), Jeannelle Thompson (51st), Bradach (58th) and Gillingham (63rd) within 14 second-half minutes broke open the 1-all halftime deadlock. "We played very determined soccer and showed what we’re capable of doing every time out today," Raider coach Jose Chavez said. "Penetrating OIT’s box was what we needed to do, and we executed the game plan to near perfection for a good 65 minutes." Thompson (five) led six different Raider players who took at least six shots, and the Techsters were unable to muster a shot for 40 game minutes until after the SOU fireworks subsided. Schwartz paced the Owls with five shots, and the OIT star was Pence, who posted a season-high 17 saves during the 22-shot-on-goal Raider barrage. Southern hopes to get back into the divisional title hunt Friday in Salem when it battles loop-leading Western Baptist (6-3, 5-0).
