Mail Tribune / Bob Pennell It’s top shelf all the way SOU library project will double its size When students return to Southern Oregon University in Ashland on Sept. 27, there’ll be a three-story surprise awaiting them. The newly remodeled Lenn and Dixie Hannon Library features a three-story glass entrance, a coffee shop and new wired and wireless technology. The $23.5 million project is expected to be completed in February. Advancements to the building include two Internet-wired classrooms, a media playback center, an expanded Information Technology Center and study rooms with computer connections. The remodeling project almost doubles the size of the structure, built in the 1960s. The library was renamed in honor of former Sen. Lenn Hannon, who helped secure $20 million in state bonding for the project. The Oregon University System board unanimously approved SOU’s request in February that an exception be made to a rule precluding the naming of facilities after people who are still alive. The library is open from 7:45 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and from 1 to 11 p.m. on Sundays.
