Southern Oregon history airs Saturday on RVTV Feb 13, 2009 12:00 AM A A Rogue Valley Community Television and Southern Oregon University will broadcast a seven-hour program, Saturday, Feb. 14, to commemorate Oregon's 150th birthday. "Oregon Stories: Remembering Southern Oregon" will be seen on RVTV Channel 9 on the Charter and Ashland Home network in Jackson County and RVTV Channel 14 on the Charter Cable network in Josephine County. The program begins at 10 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. The first four hours of programming are live from the new RCC/SOU Higher Education Center at 101 S. Bartlett in Medford. The public is invited to attend the live broadcasts, which include the following: "A History of the Landscape" — 10 a.m., Pat Acklin, associate professor, geography, SOU. "Wagons West" — 11 a.m., Stories of Southern Oregon's pioneers; Linda Lochard, West Side Quartermaster, 1996 Applegate Trail Wagon Trip. "Oregon's Milestone Contributions to Radio and Television" — noon, Ron Kramer, executive director, Jefferson Public Radio and author of "Pioneer Mikes: A History of Radio and Television in Oregon." "Minorities in Southern Oregon" — 1 p.m., "The African American Experience in Southern Oregon," D.L. Richardson, chair, communication, SOU; and "A History of the Chinese Immigrant Experience in Southern Oregon," Jeff Barlow, chair, Asian studies, Pacific University. The last three hours of the broadcast include the following pre-recorded RVTV programming: "Preserving our History" — 2 p.m., Terrie Martin, interim executive director, Southern Oregon Historical Society; Joan Momsen, Grants Pass Historical Society; and Kate Cleland-Sipfle, librarian, SOU Hannon Library. "Oregon Stories" — 3 p.m., Oregonians reminisce about their state. "Remembering Southern Oregon University" — 4 p.m., SOU emeritus faculty: Arthur Kreisman, Ken Bartlett, David Hoffman, Sue Corp and Ron Bolstad; and Mary Cullinan, SOU President. The "Oregon Stories" specials are sponsored by Southern Oregon University and a grant from the Oregon University System supporting Oregon-150.
