A record 63 responses came in this week and overwhelming readers said they want to see a Trader Joe’s discount grocery store come to the Rogue Valley: The question was: "Is there a store franchise absent from the Rogue Valley that you would like to see come here?" Trader Joe’s was the choice of 35 folks out there in cyber-land, nearly four times the total of the second-place store, Nordstrom’s. For reasons why, read on; and don’t forget to take a moment to answer our new question. It’s a gas! Advertisement I would like to see a BestBuy or Fry's Electronic. Something to give Sears and Circuit City a run for their money. All the electronic prices in this town are too high. Everyone said it because we are a small town. Hello! Last time I check Medford was bigger that Yreka. — Jason, Medford Nordstrom's, Krispy Kreme and some good restaurants like Ruth's Chris Steakhouse! We could use a Sam's Club to keep Costco prices fair ... and in Eagle Point, a Safeway or Albertson's. Oh ... and build that Krispy Kreme right on Hwy. 62 at the Alta Vista light / Royal Avenue light! Oh my goodness ... I forgot one! Trader Joe's! We could really use a Trader Joe's in the Valley! Ever heard of "Two-Buck Chuck"? — Dawn Powell, Eagle Point Trader Joe's Market. They have an original selection of quality foods and wines and their prices are quite reasonable. I think they would do well here in the Rogue Valley. — Joe Meadows, Ashland Trader Joe's. — Steve Schoen Home Depot. — Jim H., White City I would like to see a new Kmart open again in the Rogue Valley. I miss that store tremendously. — K. Good food and good prices. — Michael Davis, Jacksonville I would like to see a large computer electronics store similar to Frye’s Electronics up in Wilsonville. The Rogue Valley has a lot of stores selling computer stuff, but it is the same basic things in all of them. We need more variety and pricing that better matches what you pay for things online. I can think of a few stores I would love to see in the Rogue Valley: The Bon, Macy’s, Home Depot, Kohl's, Lamp's Plus, Boston Market and Panda Express. — David Giles, Eagle Point Krispy Kreme Donuts!!!! — Jenn R., Medford Trader Joe’s is a "grocery" chain with a business plan like no other. How about patronizing the locally grown businesses ... like the Grange, Grover's, Yellow Basket, and Minute Markets. This will ensure good healthy competition, and it will keep the profits in Oregon — not in L.A., New York, or Arkansas. — Matt C., Medford Yes! I moved here form Portland and still make a trip all the way to Eugene to purchase specialty items. — Jean Layton, Rogue River Whole Foods — a grocery store with integrity and a commitment to good food free of all the chemicals, genetically modified, and high-fructose corn-syrup laden foods that large agri-businesses seem intent on flooding us with and destroying our health. Perhaps because they have investments in HMOs. — K. Pallone, Medford Moving here last summer from Colorado, I found many things missing from the larger urban area I was used to. One of the many things that I would like to see added to our shopping repertoire is a Kohl’s — an awesome clothing store! I would love it if Home Depot actually found a landing spot here! ... I feel that there is an absence of an organic food supplier. I feel that the Ashland Co-op and the Market are O.K., but I would love to see a Whole Foods in the area! —Nicole Riley, Medford In-n-Out Restaurant, Black Bear Restaurant, Denny’s, IHOP, Best Buys, Home Depot. And either a Fresh Choice or a Sweet Tomatoes (healthy huge salad bar restaurant). Valley View Rd. Great location, and a great store. — Elizabeth Brown, Talent Nordstrom’s; They carry narrow shoes; only Norris does, which limits selection. Kohl’s, The Bon, Gottschalks, Nordstrom’s for department stores. And would love to have a Wild Oats for groceries and health! — Maggie Westerfield, Central Point Two of them: Bed, Bath and Beyond, and Home Depot. — Lynda Hansen, Talent I couldn't believe your question about what stores we need in the Medford area. This is a constant subject among us transplants from California. We realize we are in growth spurt here and do not have the services and stores that we might have had from whence we came, but we pray for the following in order of priority: Trader Joe's — need I say more? Home Depot — nice competition to Lowe's. Hopefully they'll start offering customer service and train its sales people! Fish market — Oregon has access to wonderful, fresh fish and no one to sell it Medford. Eugene has two wonderful fish markets, why can't we? Cost Plus World Market A nice wine shop in Medford — now that Wolfgang's has closed, we desperately need a replacement Pottery Barn — with all the new homes, wouldn't it make sense to bring a nice quality, moderately priced and stylish furniture store to the area? — Denise Marshall, Eagle Point When I go home to visit Tennessee, my first stop is always the Sonic Drive-in. That’s what we need; a carhop drive-in with great chili, foot- long cheese hot-dogs and Cherry, Lime-aide drinks. — KathiSue Summers, Medford Trader Joe's, Always busy; adds a lot of class to a neighborhood. People come from near and far to shop, we go to Eugene. — Judy Dillon I moved to Medford from California several years ago. Two of my favorite stores were Macy's and Nordstom.
