Salmon, a junior at Western Oregon University, posted a time of 11 minutes, 27.49 seconds in humid and windy conditions. Salmon advanced to the 3,000 steeplechase finals by finishing third (11:24.77) in a preliminary heat. She had a best time of 11:16 earlier in the year. Phoenix-Talent Masons winHasha baseball tournament Justin Meza collected four hits in the championship game to lead the Phoenix-Talent Masons to a 14-6 victory over the Medford Angels in the fourth annual Jeremy Hasha Memorial Tournament. The 16-team, 13-and-under Babe Ruth event was held May 24-26 at Miles Field, the Medford Babe Ruth diamond and South Medford High. The four bracket winners were Central Point, the Medford Angels, Klamath Falls and Phoenix-Talent. In the semifinals at Miles Field, the Medford Angels defeated Central Point, 15-12, and the Masons edged Klamath Falls, 4-2. In the finals, Meza went 4-for-5 for the Masons, while Michael Harthun had two hits for Medford. Dustin Smith led the Masons in hitting throughout the tourney with a .789 batting average. Rogue Valley Soccer Clubsets tryouts Sunday, Monday The Rogue Valley Soccer Club will hold tryouts for its under-11 through under-14 fall competitive teams from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. and tryouts will run from 6-8 p.m. both days. Following are the tryout sites: U11 boys and girls at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park, U12 boys at Orchard Hill Elementary, U12 girls at Hawthorne Park, U13 boys at Kennedy Elementary, U13 girls at North Medford High football practice area east of the Bowerman track, U14 boys at the North Medford junior varsity field and U14 girls at North Medford’s Hoffbuhr Field. The registration fee is $100 and includes fall 2002 and spring 2003 pay. Registration forms are available in Medford at Cascade Athletic; Rogue Valley Soccer Shop; Medford Parks and Recreation; or on the RVSC Web site at www.rvsoccer.com . All players must have a completed registration form signed by the players’ guardian and a copy of their birth certificate before trying out. There will be registration forms available at the field. Players are asked to bring a light-colored and a dark-colored shirt, ball, water, shin guards and soccer cleats. Any player wishing to participate on a fall competitive team must attend one tryout. Attendance at both tryouts is not required. Players are encouraged to try out at their own age level and any player choosing to tryout for higher age level must fill out the RVSC "Playing Up" petition, signed by the players’ guardian, at or before the first night of tryouts. The competitive season begins in September, with games played on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, e-mail [email protected].
