RECREATION Bear Creek Greenway to link to Highway 62 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jul. 10, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Jul. 10, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News The Medford City Planning Commission is planning to make bicyclists' lives easier by constructing two ramps at the Highway 62 and Interstate 5 interchange to connect to the Bear Creek Greenway. The lack of connection has meant for years that pedestrians and bicyclists on Highway 62 who want to reach the Greenway have had to choose one of two alternate routes that take them about a mile out of their way. Many have taken to slipping through a wire fence at the intersection, creating a well-established trail in the dirt from the guardrail to the bike path. Jenna Stanke, bicycle and pedestrian program manager for Jackson County Roads & Parks, said that safety and convenience were the main drivers behind putting the ramps in place. The county received grant funding from the Oregon Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee to construct the ramps, which are expected to be completed by fall. The county is contracting with JRT Construction in Sutherlin to complete the project.
