Assistant will temporarily fill administrator's post When Jackson County Administrator Burke Raymond retires Sept. 30, Assistant Administrator Sue Slack will succeed him until county commissioners decide what to do next. Two out-of-state finalists for administrator are out of the running, Chairman Ric Holt said Thursday. "We negotiated with two wonderful candidates, but one could not take the job for personal reasons, and we could not come to terms with the other," Holt said. "But we are not in any hurry to get anybody. We are going to take our time and take a long hard look at this. We have a good management team on hand right now." Holt did not identify them by name, but two of the finalists were from Florida and Minnesota. Raymond is preparing to retire Sept. 30 after 13 years as administrator and decades in public service. Slack could not be reached for comment. Slack, who started with Jackson County government as a personnel analyst in 1976, also was considered for the top job.
