Web cam monitors school project Apr 22, 2009 12:00 AM A A The public can now watch the construction of the new South Medford High School at Columbus and Cunningham avenues on their computers. The school district has installed a Web cam at the campus that transmits new photos every 30 minutes, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., showing the progress crews have made in construction. "It's a good way, in a generic sense, to show progress to people who might not have the time to drive out the site and peek through the fence," said Neil Brown, a senior project manager with Day CPM. "Since it's public dollars, it's just a good communication tool." Brown oversees and coordinates all the contractors on the 38-acre site. The Web cam images, hosted by iBeam Systems Inc., are available at www.medfordschooldistrict.org/SMH.htm. The Web cam is mounted on the backside of Brown's construction trailer on the northeast corner of the campus. The 255,000-square-foot school costs $81 million and is set to open in fall 2010. A $189 million bond package approved by voters in November 2006 is funding the project. The new school will replace the existing South Medford High School at South Oakdale Avenue. A use for the old building has not yet been decided. The district and Brown will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at South Medford, 815 S. Oakdale, to provide an update on the construction. — Paris Achen
