Klamath puts end to North girls run Coming off an upset win over Ashland on Tuesday, the North Medford girls basketball team hoped to continue its late-season run in the Southern Oregon Conference. Klamath Union put an end to such a notion, Friday night, downing the host Black Tornado, 49-43. North Medford pushed out to an early lead but managed only two second-quarter points. "We just all of a sudden decided we weren�t going to run our offense with more than two or three passes," said North Medford coach J.T. Thomas. "We lost our focus." Klamath Union (13-6, 6-5 SOC) forged a third-place tie with Ashland with three games remaining. The Black Tornado (6-14, 3-8) fought back to trim the lead to four late in the final period but failed to get a defensive rebound on free throw attempts. "When you�re playing 40 seconds of hard defense and they go to the line and miss but you can�t get the rebound," said Thomas. "That�s just a killer." Kara Hwang led North Medford with 15 points and Ashley Nelson added 13 before fouling out late in the contest. Nelson also held Klamath Union�s Megan Leppert to two points in the first half after she scorched the Tornado for 20 in the first meeting last month. SOUTH MEDFORD 66, EAGLE POINT 33 � At Eagle Point, Kellie Thomas scored 21 points and Amber Hunt 10 points and seven rebounds as South Medford solidified its hold on second place in the SOC. South (13-7, 8-3 SOC) made 14 of 18 free throws in the second quarter to open 38-9 halftime lead in a game that featured 62 foul shots. Emily Perttu added 10 points and four steals for the Panthers . GRANTS PASS 53, ROSEBURG 51 � At Grants Pass, Alison Klingel hit three free throws in the final 90 seconds and Megan Moon scored a game-high 20 points as Grants Pass downed Roseburg to snap a four-game losing streak. Shannon Burmeister had 15 points and Lindsey Heard 12 for Roseburg, which fell to 5-6 and into fifth place in the SOC. Danae Thomason nailed three 3-point baskets and finished with 11 points for the Cavers, who improved to 4-7 in the SOC and 11-10 overall.
