Mail Tribune 100, March 3, 1916 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 3, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Mar. 3, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News March 3, 1916 POULTRY SHOW MADE A PROFIT President Hunter, of the Southern Oregon Poultry association, has called a meeting of the association to be held at the public market Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at which it is hoped that every member and a large attendance of others interested will be present. Treasurer Raymond A. Miksche will present an excellent report of the business of the association to date, showing an expenditure of $250 or more and about $125 in the treasury. In addition to the usual business of the meeting, a plan for the campaign in preparation for the state show here next December will be outlined and the co-operation of Josephine and Klamath counties urged. This will give the poultry people of those counties a chance to prepare for a full representation. In the show held recently in this city the time given outside districts was too short for extensive preparation for exhibits, and yet they did well. LOCAL AND PERSONAL Professor E. W. Hedrun, formerly connected with the public schools at Denver, Col., and more recently with those at Los Angeles, Cal., has retired from professional work and concluded to find a small place in an equable climate, without too much sunheat or too much cold in winter. Hence, his visit to this valley. He believes that he he has found the place he seeks, but will remain here some time before reaching a final conclusion. Like the Kansas circuit rider, the longer he remains the longer he'll stay. Mrs. Hedrun is visiting with old-time friends in Ashland. She will join Mr. Hedrun here Sunday. J. T. Eldridge of Spokane has been attracted by the climate of southern Oregon to make this valley another visit. He likes our fruits and mines and expresses the belief that some time, the time in the future depending on how vigorously local public spiritedness grasps the opportunity, this southern Oregon country will be the proper Mecca, not only for those who are looking for health and fruits and an equable climate, the choicest vegetables and finest chickens, lambs and pigs, but for those who have capital to invest in big enterprises. Mr. Eldridge has acquaintances in the country, with whom he will visit for some time.
