Two men arrested in shooting A Medford man and another from Eugene were arrested after shots were fired from their vehicle during a chase late Friday. Brandon Padilla, 21, of the 3500 block of Creek View Drive, Medford, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on four counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of disorderly conduct. He was released Saturday on bail. John Guy Jacob, 20, of Eugene, was jailed on charges of unlawful possession and unlawful use of a firearm and four counts each of menacing and recklessly endangering another person. He was held in jail on $55,000 bail. Padilla and Jacob reportedly encountered four people in a car at the Rogue Valley Mall and were involved in an argument about someone known to both parties, said Medford police Sgt. Chad Teresi. The argument turned into a chase when the two men, driving a large sport-utility vehicle, followed the car onto Table Rock Road, Teresi said. During the chase, Jacob allegedly fired three shots from the passenger seat. Police said they later found a 9 mm handgun and two loaded magazines in the vehicle driven by Padilla. Officers recovered empty cartridges from the gun near Table Rock and Merriman roads, Teresi said. Occupants of the second car weren't injured. Police said the reason for the shooting was unclear. "It was just weird and stupid," Teresi said. Central Point police received calls about the chase and stopped the cars on Coachman Drive, Teresi said. Medford police arrested Padilla and Jacob.
