According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Jackson County Circuit Court, a Central Point police officer pulled over a silver Mitsubishi Lancer just before 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 5 for allegedly failing to signal prior to turning. Police said the driver, Jason Alexander Reames, 36, and his passenger Jason Keith Perkins, 30, had suspended driving privileges. Perkins was searched for weapons and released at the scene, while Reames was detained. When police searched the car before towing it, they found a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun and a .22-caliber revolver in plain view on the passenger-side floor boardthe arresting officer wrote. Police also found electronic scales, plastic bags and multiple stashes of methamphetamine, which Reames allegedly told officers he and Perkins had been on their way to Rogue River to sell. Reames, who court documents say has a prior felony convictions for first-degree child neglect and possession of marijuana, is prohibited from possessing from firearms. Possession of a shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches long is also a felony under both state and federal law. Reames was arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a short-barreled shotgun and manufacture, delivery and possession of methamphetamine. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $140,000 bail. The Jackson County District Attorney's Office Thursday filed a felony information with the court also charging Perkins with manufacture, delivery and possession, as well as possession of the sawed-off shotgun. Reames had $2,373 in cash in his pockets when he was arrested, police said. Documents show the money is sought for forfeiture as the alleged proceeds of criminal activity.
