Pastor Norman Nibblett will officiate. Interment willbe at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mr. Hartman, 81, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (May 20, 2001) atProvidence Medford Medical Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community HealthFoundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504. He was born May 18, 1920, in Tacoma, Wash., the son of Charles andEthel Hartman. On Jan. 25, 1948, in Van Nuys, Calif., he married Helen Mae Conrad, who survives. They moved tothe Rogue Valley in 1989 from Paso Robles, Calif. Mr. Hartman was a maintenance worker at Lockheed Aircraft Corp.,and later worked in the water department for the city of Oxnard, Calif., retiring in 1975. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1940 to 1946, on boardships, including the CGC Taney. He was aboard ship during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He later served in theU.S. Naval Reserves from 1948 to 1955. Mr. Hartman was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Rogue Riverand was a veteran's representative for Freedom is Not Free. He and his son were also active inchurch and home building restoration. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Steven,Medford; a daughter, Linda Bridgman, Gold Hill; a sister, Delores Moore, Orinda, Calif.; and twograndchildren. Brother Elliott Lovelace of Talent Friends Church will officiate. Mrs. Kingsley, 80, of Medford, died Monday (May 21, 2001) at herhome. She was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Houston, a daughter of Clarence andEthel Byfield. On Feb. 17, 1938, in Cordell, Okla., she married J.W. Kingsley, who died in 1996. They moved tothe Rogue Valley in 1949. Mrs. Kingsley was a homemaker and seasonal worker for BagleyCanary and Bear Creek Corp. She was a former member of the Ashland Baptist Church as well asthe Ashland PTA. Mrs. Kingsley enjoyed yearly trips to Kellogg Beach, Calif., andButler, Okla. Survivors include two daughters, Lovena Hackworth, Medford, andJoyce Baugus, Red Bluff, Calif.; two sisters, Leona Urshler, Warr Acres, Okla., and Modene Stanley, Arapaho,Okla.; several grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Portland, the son of Frederick andClella Murray Cooper. On June 18, 1949, in Seattle, he married Phyllis Pearson, who survives. They moved tothe Rogue Valley 31 years ago from California. Mr. Cooper worked for the U.S. Postal Service for six years, thenas a machinist for 35 years, in California and locally for Medford Steel. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Cooper was a member and past president of the local machinistunion. He attended Cornerstone Christian Church. He enjoyed amateur hockey, camping and playing the Hand and Footcard game. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Frederick,Grants Pass; five daughters, Nancy Robinson and Susan Schwartz, both Central Point, Peggy Stempes, White City,Elizabeth White, Los Molinos, Calif., and Laura Graves, Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; and sixgreat-grandchildren. Mrs. Whaley, 82, of Grants Pass, died Monday (May 21, 2001) atThree Rivers Community Hospital, Dimmick Campus, Grants Pass. She was born May 27, 1918, in Shawnee, Okla. She married CalvinWhaley, who died in 1983. They moved to Grants Pass in 1956 from Berkeley, Calif. Mrs. Whaley was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, camping and traveling. Survivors include a son, Larry, Grants Pass; nine grandchildren;and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Hand; and an infant son, Calvin. Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley, Grants Pass. Archie Brookshire The graveside service for Archie Brookshire will be at 11 a.m.today at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mr. Brookshire, 73, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (May 19, 2001)at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Dimmick Campus, Grants Pass. He was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Dalton, Ga. On Dec. 15, 1946, inLong Beach, Calif., he married Loretta, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1989 from Juneau, Alaska. Mr. Brookshire entered the U.S. Coast Guard in 1947 in Long Beach,Calif. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1970. He then went towork for the Alaska Ferry System, where he was a chief engineer. He retired in 1990. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and the AmericanLegion. Mr. Brookshire enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Bill andClay, both Sparks, Nev.; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dale, 72, of Central Point, died Monday (May 21, 2001) inCentral Point. She was born May 20, 1929, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Verniand Pearl (Watkins) Stephenson. On Nov. 29, 1974, in Reno, Nev., she married Homer L. Dale, who died in 1988. Mrs. Dale was a homemaker and part-owner of D & M Logging Co. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, canning and gardening. Survivors include two sons, Kim Gray and Scott Downing, bothCentral Point; a daughter, Andi Neuroth, Prospect; two stepsons, Herbert L. Dale, Kingman, Ariz., and HowardL. Dale, Victorville, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Toni E. Williams, Salem; six grandchildren; fourgreat-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gray. He was born March 31, 1930, in Quincy, Mass., a son of Frank andDorothy (Hall) Lindberg. On May 6, 1955, in Portland, he married Mary Louise Moe, who survives. Mr. Lindberg served in the U.S. Air Force and in civil service,retiring after more than 40 years. He served in the Korean War and had several overseas assignments. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the RogueValley Medical Center Auxiliary. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Jr. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford. Patricia L. Wilson-Reed Patricia L. Wilson-Reed, 53, of Grants Pass, formerly of WhiteCity, died Friday (May 18, 2001) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. Elvin Leroy Chapman Elvin Leroy Chapman, 79, of Grants Pass, died Monday (May 21,2001) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Dimmick Campus, Grants Pass. A private service is planned. He was born April 25, 1922, in Vancouver, Wash. In 1947, inVancouver, Wash., he married Erma Jacobus, who survives. Mr. Chapman served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Brian, GrantsPass; two brothers, Floyd Chapman, Lees Summit, Mo., and Richard, Portland; and a sister, Alice Corson, SanMarcos, Calif. Vera Ruth Miller Vera Ruth Miller, 79, of Grants Pass, died Monday (May 21, 2001)at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation in Grants Pass. A private graveside service is planned atHillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass. She was born April 11, 1922, in Toledo, a daughter of Benjamine F.and Olive R. (Kelso) Moffit. On April 6, 1940, she married Lawrence Ted Miller, who died in 1981.She lived in the Grants Pass area for 75 years. Mrs. Miller was a member of Redwood Christian Church, the HomeExtension Unit of the Grants Pass area, and Jerome Prairie Community Church. She enjoyed cake decorating, gardening, the beach and her time inCosta Rica. Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Sandstrom, Medford, andLaurel Miller, Grants Pass; two sisters, Jean Ryan and Lois Priddle, both Grants Pass; three grandchildren;and two great-granddaughters. She was born April 3, 1919, in Holtville, Calif., a daughter ofNewton and Ruth Ellen Leng Simmons. She received a bachelor's degree in English from La Verne University inCalifornia around 1941. On March 31, 1946, in Los Angeles, she married Robert B. Latham, who died in 2000. Mrs. Latham taught elementary school in Culver City, Calif., andHayward, Calif., for close to 40 years. She moved to Grants Pass in 1991 from the Bay Area. She moved toPhoenix in October 2000. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include two sons, Robert M., Phoenix, and Lawrence E.,Las Vegas; a daughter, Randi E. Warner, Grants Pass; two brothers, Lorne R. Simmons, Lucerne, Calif., andGrover Simmons, Hesperia, Calif.; a sister, Verna Simmons, Pleasant Hills, Calif.; and eight grandchildren. Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.
