The Raiders (9-7, 6-2 CC) won their fifth consecutive home game by canning six of their first seven attempts from beyond the arc, including two by junior point guard Steve Farley. The barrage resulted in a 20-6 edge seven minutes into the fray, and the seventh-place Mountaineers (3-11, 2-5) never recovered. SOU, which shot 9-for-15 from 3-point range for the game (60 percent), received clutch performances from junior reserves RaShawn McAllister (team-best 14 points, including two treys and two dunks) and walk-on forward Jeff Multanen (six rebounds). Foul-plagued posts Shea Washington and Jeff Williams each scored 11 for Southern, as did senior guard Brad Coen. Advertisement The Mountaineers, who lost to their in-state rivals for the eighth straight meeting, outrebounded the Raiders 30-28 but shot just 39 percent (14 of 36) compared to a 22-for-49 SOU clip (45 percent). Junior center Chad Fairbanks led the visitors with game-highs of 17 points and eight rebounds. SOU led 34-16 at halftime, and EOU never came closer than within 14 in the second stanza, and trailed by as much as 24. Farley compiled a season-best eight assists for Southern. Women’s Basketball EASTERN OREGON 77, SOUTHERN OREGON 48 — At Ashland, Eastern Oregon won its 26th consecutive Cascade Conference fray by downing Southern Oregon. Sophomore guard Christie Weaver nailed two of her three 3-pointers and scored eight of her game-best 19 points in helping the Mountaineers (10-4, 7-0 CC) storm to a 21-13 first-half advantage. The La Grande school shot 60-percent in taking a 37-27 halftime edge and it was not challenged in the second period. Southern (3-16, 2-6) dropped its third straight contest despite twin 12-point efforts by junior guard Chelsey Brock and sophomore post Sara Beyer. Beyer led all players with 10 rebounds and registered her third double-double of the season. The Mounties, who never trailed, converted 32 of 61 shots (53 percent) and finished with a 42-33 rebounding edge. Meanwhile, the Raiders missed 44 of 61 shots (28 percent) and 14 of 17 3-point tries (18 percent). In addition to Weaver, junior guard Heidi Horobioski (14), junior forward Andra Peterson (12) and senior post Sara Smith (10) also scored in double digits for EOU.
