As of 4 p.m. Sunday, Medford got more than half an inch of rain, and at least another one and a half to two inches of rain is expected before Tuesday evening, which could cause some localized flooding in areas where ice and debris have dammed storm drains and culverts, said Sven Nelaimischkies, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Furthermore, high-elevation rain is expected and will likely melt some of the snow pack, creating runoffs and causing local streams and rivers to swell, Nelaimischkies said. Freezing temperatures aren’t expected until Wednesday evening, and road conditions should improve making travel easier, he added. “Basically, we’re getting a brief lull in the action,” he said. Oregon State Police reported Sunday that, since Friday, troopers have responded to more than 750 traffic incidents, including 91 road hazards, 266 disabled vehicles and 394 reported crashes. “Most (incidents) were weather related,” the news release said. “Fortunately, no lives were lost, but we are still urging motorists safe travels during this storm. If traveling is not necessary, please don’t.” OSP also is urging drivers to slow down when road conditions are bad, put away handheld electronic devices, get plenty of rest before traveling, wear seat belts and have water, food and blankets packed just in case. “If your vehicle becomes disabled or cannot travel any further, do not stop in the roadway,” the release said.” Please try to get it off the plowed section of the roadway or it could be towed. Leave a note with the vehicle explaining when you intend on removing it.” A winter storm warning will be in effect for the Cascades and the Siskiyous from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning.
