St. Mary's claims SCL crown all for itself CHILOQUIN � Chiloquin�s senior night was spoiled by the St. Mary�s Crusaders who posted a 56-46 Southern Cascade League win over the Panthers. The Crusaders (18-4, 9-1 SCL) clinched sole possession of the SCL title with the win. Sophomore Micheal Fiddler led the Crusaders with 17 points, while senior Chris Murphy chipped in with 15. The Panthers, who dropped to 2-8 in SCL play, went into the fourth quarter only down two, but the Crusaders outscored the Panthers 17-9 to seal the win. "The first couple of minutes of the fourth quarter we were able to pull away," said Crusader assistant coach Dan Fiddler. Seniors Cliff Crosby and Blaine Ross each had nine points to led the Panthers. The Crusaders finished first in league play for the first time since 1993 and are guaranteed a trip to the Class 2A state tournament. St. Mary�s will host the winner of the SCL playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 24, to determine seeding for the 2A tournament. ST. MARY�S (56 ) � P. Staver 0, B. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 75, BONANZA 64 � At Superior gym, Cascade Christian secured third place in the Southern Cascade League and home-court advantage in the first round of the SCL playoffs with the win. Jordan Ferrell posted a double-double for the Challengers with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Challengers, 5-5 in the SCL, maintained a 27-4 edge in made free throws. Nick Noble led the fourth-place Antlers, 4-6 in SCL, with 14 points. Cascade Christian will host Bonanza in the first round of the SCL playoffs on Tuesday. Girls CASCADE CHRISTIAN 63, BONANZA 56 � Senior wing Rebekah Gettman got loose for seven of her 14 points in the fourth quarter as Cascade Christian rallied to secure second-place in the SCL. The Challengers (19-4, 8-2 SCL) will host fifth-place Gilchrist at Superior gym at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the opening round of the SCL playoffs. Cascade Christian trailed by four points entering the fourth quarter at Superior gym, but outscored the Antlers 21-10 in the period. Rebekah Gettman�s sister, sophomore point guard Hannah, led Cascade with 16 points. The Gettman sisters took advantage of Bonanza double teaming Challengers leading scorer Kelly Clarke down low. Clarke, who tallied 11 points, was saddled with foul problems early. Bonanza senior wing Katie Hitt produced a game-high 20 points.
