Medford man dies in Warm Springs head on

A Medford man died Tuesday evening in a head-on collision on Highway 26, midway between Madras and Mount Hood Village. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle at milepost 74 about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Kyle Estes, 52, of Medford died at the Wasco County scene. Estes was driving a black 2016 GMC Terrain west in a forested area of the Warm Springs Reservation when a red 2000 Ford E-350 cargo van, driven by Lanny Hawley, 65, of Gresham, crossed into the westbound lane. Hawley sustained critical injuries and was air lifted to St. Charles Hospital in Bend. Highway 26 was closed for six hours following the crash. The death is the second involving a Medford driver within a week on Highway 26, which stretches from Astoria to Nyssa. Gordon Waite, 39, died Saturday in a single-vehicle rollover near Unity.
