Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 22, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 22, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News April 22, 1915 Juvenile Deliquents Accused of Robberies George Pearl, George Bateman and James Robinson, boys of 17 years, implicated in the epidemic of petty thievery in this city the last six months by the confessions of the chicken thief division of the gang, will be given a hearing before Judge Tou Velle of the juvenile court this afternoon. The boys are alleged to have robbed Wilson's second-hand store, the Sparta cigar store and residences in the last six months. The authorities have launched a vigorous campagin against bad boys, and over a dozen arrests are scheduled in the near future. Girl Hikers Here; Will Entertain Elks The Misses Fay and June Shea of Portland and Miss Kitty Bertbetz of Saginaw, a trio of girls who are hiking from Portland to the San Francisco fair, arrived in Medford Wednesday afternoon and will walk to Ashland today, where they have a theatrical engagement to fill. The girls left Portland March 8, and expect to arrive in San Francisco some time early in June. They will appear in a theatrical sketch in local moving picture houses for the next week or ten days before continuing their southward walk. The hikers will entertain the Elks lodge with a musical program tonight. No Damage Done Yet by Jack Frost Smudging was resorted to in various parts of the valley Wednesday night, solely as a precautionary measure. The lowest temperature reported to the Rogue River Fruit & Produce Association was 30 degrees. The danger point was reached at no time, and the damage from the frost nil. The next week is the critical period in the frost season. Just at present the valley needs rain worse than England needs munitions. The ground is dry. Agitation launched for irrigation last February has to date netted no definite results. The usual April showers that were figured upon to supply moisture, to date have been conspicuous by their absence.
