Local Report Tuesday Jul 18, 2000 at 2:00 AM Dec 17, 2010 at 5:21 AM Hodges, Dunn, Tacha qualify for nationals Brittany Hodges was one of three Medford girls to qualify for the National Junior Olympic track championships during a three-state regional competition Saturday and Sunday in Springfield. The national meet takes place in Buffalo, N.Y., July 27-30. The top three placers in each regional are eligible for nationals. Hodges qualified in three events in the Youth Division (13-14 years old) at Springfield High's Silke Field, while Emily Dunn, Intermediate Division (15-16), qualified in two events and Christine Tacha, Youth Division, qualified in one. Hodges won the 400 in a time of 58.38 seconds, the best 400 time of any girls age group in the meet that consisted of athletes up to 18 years old from Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The incoming freshman at North Medford High also won the 200 with a mark of 26.08 and finished third in the 100 (12.73). Dunn took third in the 100 (12.68) and third in the 200 (26.4). Tacha, an eighth-grader to be at Hedrick Middle School, achieved a third place in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 9? inches. Matt Parish, 17, and Denali Tice, 17, both of Medford, competed in the regional but did not qualify for nationals. Parish took fourth in the 400 (51.2), while Tice finished fifth in the 200 (26.5). — Bills, Rasmussen win Chapman in playoff Kelly Rasmussen and Brad Bills captured the 26th annual Rogue Valley Insurance Chapman golf tournament Sunday on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff at Cedar Links Golf Club. Rasmussen and Bills finished in a tie with Scott Tuttle and Bob Cox at 134 in the gross division of the 36-hole medal play two-day tournament. Dave and Jason Whitkopf finished third at 135. (0-18), Bob Dickey; (19+), Janet Marlega. — Godley earns honor for wrestling achievements Justin Godley of Central Point has been named the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award winner for the state of Oregon. The award, named for the late Olympic and World champion, is based equally on athletic, academic and community achievement. While competing at Crater High, Godley amassed a career record of 116-11, including 67 falls en route to capturing two Class 4A state titles. Godley has also been named a Wrestling USA All-American and will attend the University of Oregon this fall. — Oak Knoll senior trio win Monday's golf tourney Jim Conklin, John Gray and Bob Householder combined to win the Oak Knoll Seniors one gross & two net golf event Monday at Oak Knoll Golf Course. Conklin, Gray and Householder posted a 104 total to beat the team of John Archer, Don Wallace and Al Ford (113). Conklin also won the closest-to-the pin second shot at No. 9.
