Gary Patrick Hansen, 44, of the 3700 of Rogue River Highway, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail Sunday evening on a single count of murder. He will be arraigned on the charge at 1:45 p.m. today in Jackson County Circuit Court. The name of the victim — a man in his 70s — was not released pending the notification of family members who live out of state, said Tim Barnack, deputy district attorney for Jackson County. Police went to the victim’s house Sunday at about 8 a.m. to investigate his possible disappearance, reported by a neighbor, Barnack said, adding that he could not disclose how long the man had been missing. Jackson County sheriff’s deputies recovered the victim’s body downstream from his house at about 7 p.m. Investigators spotted the corpse before sunset, but a search and rescue squad had to use boats and a configuration of ropes to bring it in, Barnack said. Advertisement Investigators have not determined how the man was slain, Barnack said. An autopsy likely will be scheduled later this week, he added. Hansen was arrested at his residence and lodged in jail at about 6:30 p.m. Barnack would not say how detectives linked him to the crime or his relationship to the victim, but they have no other suspects in mind. "Through investigation, we were able to determine a suspect," Barnack said. Hansen was arrested for several minor crimes — including third-degree robbery, fourth-degree assault and unauthorized use of a vehicle — between 1989 and 1994. However, all charges were dismissed, according to Circuit Court records. The county’s major assault/death investigation team was called to the scene.
