Grants Pass knocks off Crater, gains split Softball roundup GRANTS PASS -- Surprising Grants Pass suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, but bounced back to knock off Crater in the second game of Southern Oregon Conference softball doubleheader. The Comets, picked to finish second in the SOC, won the opener 7-2 before Grants Pass snapped back for a 2-1 triumph. "That was a big win for this program," said first-year coach Clay Rounsaville. "Anytime you beat a quality team like Crater, it's a huge win and we're pretty excited." The split left both teams with 3-1 SOC records. Grants Pass is now 9-1 overall. "We just wanted to put things in place this season and work hard to get the right kind of kid in the program so we can compete with the Roseburgs, North Medfords and Craters. So far, we've been playing beyond people's expectations and that's been a bonus." Crater took advantage of six Grants Pass errors in the first game.
