"That's awesome to shoot 12-under 60," Pernice said. "I just want to have another good day tomorrow." Pernice finished a stroke off the tour record of 59 set by Kevin Sutherland last month in the Dick's Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, New York. Davis Love III opened with a 69 in his Champions Tour debut. The 20-time PGA Tour winner turned 50 in April. Pernice played his final nine holes — the front nine at Kapolei Golf Club — in 7-under 29, also birdieing Nos. 1, 2 and 4. He had five birdies on his opening nine. On the last four holes, he hit wedge to 6 feet on the par-4 sixth, a lob wedge to 10 feet on the par-5 seventh, chipped in from 25 feet on the par-3 eighth, and hit a lob wedge to a foot on the par-4 ninth. "I hit the ball really good in the pro-am yesterday and hit good shots on the range this week and had good practice sessions," Pernice said. "The greens are really good. I putted well today." The 55-year-old Pernice, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour winner, won the Principal Charity Classic in June in Iowa for his third Champions Tour title. Michael Allen was second after a 64. He's fighting a cold. "I got sick Tuesday night. It's not fun," Allen said. "I putted well and, basically with a cold, I played one shot at a time. I rolled the ball beautifully today." Joey Sindelar and Scott Dunlap shot 65, and Jay Haas, Vijay Singh, Paul Goydos, Jim Carter and Mike Goodes followed at 66. Bernhard Langer, the tour leader with five victories, skipped the tournament to play in a European Senior Tour event in Germany. WEB.COM TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP: At Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Ashland native Jason Allred shot a 3-under 67 and made the cut in the Web.com Tour Championship. Allred is tied for 37th place. He made five birdies and was 4 under on his round until a bogey on the 18th. Zac Blair topped the leaderboard at 12 under when second-round play was suspended because of darkness. Blair was 5 under with three holes left in the round that was delayed because of rain. On Thursday, the 24-year-old former BYU player shot a 63 to match the record on TPC Sawgrass' Dye's Valley Course. After missing the cuts in the first three events in the Web.com Tour Finals, Blair needs to earn about $40,000 in the season finale to earn a PGA Tour card. The four-event series is limited to the top 75 players from the Web.com Tour money list and Nos. 126-200 in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings. The top 25 on the Web.com money list have earned PGA Tour cards. They are competing against each other for PGA Tour priority, with regular-season earnings counting in their totals. The other players are fighting for another 25 cards based on their earnings in the series. Derek Fathauer was second at 9 under after a 66. Tommy Gainey broke the course record with a 62 to move into a tie for ninth at 5 under. LPGA: At Prattville, Ala., South Africa's Paula Reto birdied her final hole for a 6-under 66 and a three-stroke lead in the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic. Reto had five birdies in a six-hole stretch on her opening nine — the back nine on Capitol Hill's Senator layout. The 24-year-old former Purdue player finished with eight birdies and two bogeys to reach 13-under 131. South Korea's Mi Jung Hur, tied for the first-round lead with top-ranked Stacy Lewis at 64, was second after a 70. Hur had four birdies and two bogeys. Lewis, the 2012 winner in the event dropped from the schedule last year after losing its title sponsor, was third at 9 under after a 71. She had five birdies and four bogeys. Sydnee Michaels, Alison Walshe and Moriya Jutanugarn were 7 under. Michaels shot 65, Walshe 68, and Jutanugarn 69. Former University of Alabama star Stephanie Meadow was 2 under after a 74.
