Its a foul result as No. 2 Crater beaten LAKE OSWEGO For Crater coach David Heard, there was no way of viewing the glass but as half empty Thursday night. Thanks to a tremendous advantage in height and at the free-throw line, seventh-ranked Central Catholic upset the No. 2-ranked Comets, 79-64, at the adidas Laker Interstate Shootout. Central Catholic went 17-for-19 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and 19-for-29 for the game as Crater was whistled for 23 fouls compared to the Rams eight in a numbers game Heard found hard to swallow. "For there to be 23 fouls to eight is ridiculous," said Heard, whose team dropped to 9-1. "They were very physical on the boards, going over our backs all night long. They were just hammering us at times and there were no calls." Crater pulled within one point with four minutes to play until the Rams began their parade to the free-throw line. Six-foot post Vanessa Wyffels paced Central Catholic (9-1) with 26 points while 6-1 teammate Katie Benz had 12 and point guard Mindy OMalley added 14. Crater answered with 18 points from Amy Denson and Sarah Pool, with Denson adding 13 rebounds and Pool dishing out four assists with four steals. The Comets face Lake Oswego at 4:30 p.m. today in a fourth-place semifinal. CENTRAL CATHOLIC (79) OMalley 14, Conway 13, Wyffels 26, McIntyre 6, Cave 7, Benz 12, Doleac 1. Totals: 28-51 19-29 79.
