Do you know who won? — John N., Grants Pass Rooster watchers in Rogue River tell us that this year’s champion was a mighty bird named Warfield, who managed to crow 46 times in the 30 minutes allowed. His happy owner, Myra Howe, took the $150 prize money — and her secret to success — back to her home in Northern California. A close second was Americus, trained by Avery Baker, at 43 crows. Third place was Big Foot, owned by Brock Scott, with 35 crows, followed by George, owned by Robert Elling, with 33 and Mr. I.P. Techy, owned by Kim Jones, with 26. All of these birds, however, pale in comparison to the prolific White Lightning, who in 1978 set the record at 112 crows. By the way, Pearl Cruusi of Roseburg won the human crow competition after three years of trying. She credits her success to being "part rooster": She takes injections of hyaluronate from roosters’ combs for her arthritis. Send questions to "Since You Asked," Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
