November 04. 2014 2:00AM Joan Elizabeth Cox Erickson Joanie was born in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle November 21, 1936 to Alfred Cox and Ruth Anne Nicholson Cox. When Al was stationed in Los Angeles during WWII, Joan, her mother, and brother, Jack, moved to Southern California to be close when Al would come to port while serving in the Merchant Marines. Al was a scout master of Jack's Boy Scout Troop. Joan met her husband of nearly 60 years, Alvern Erickson when she was 12, and the only girl at a multi-troop campout. They re-met on a blind date in high school and married March 24, 1955. Their daughter Debra Ann was born later that year, followed by their son, Michael Allen four years later. She loved camping from an early age, and spent many wonderful weekends traveling around the West Coast. Their love of open space resulted in the family relocating to Southern Oregon in 1972. Joan was part of three medical clinics in the Rogue Valley, over the next 30 years, Children and Adolescent Clinic, family medicine with Dr. Buonocore and Medford Urology Clinic. She retired in 2003 and enjoyed many happy years seeing former patients around town. Joan passed away October 27, 2014 after six months of declining health. Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Medford Providence Hospital for their compassionate care during these past months. She is survived by her loving husband. Al; daughter, Deb and husband, Pat Murphy and son Michael. She is also survived by four sweet granddaughters, Brenna, Kendall, Ashley, and Kimber; and a great-grandson, Darnez. There will be no formal gathering to mark her passing. http://www.mailtribune.com/article/20141104/OBITUARIES/311049997 © 2015 Copyright © 1995-2011 Crain Communications Inc. All Rights Reserved.
