Medford, now 3-0 in the tournament, plays its final pool play game against Grants Pass American today at 6 p.m. Bryson Lake scored the tying run in the fifth, and Sean Pearson came home with the eventual game-winner on Jeremy Scottow’s RBI hit. Ryan Miller pitched 31/3 shutout innings for Medford and Scottow came on in relief to record the win. Tony Cortez entered in the sixth with two on and nobody out but set Gold Valley down without any damage to pick up the save. Lake finished 2-for-3, while Kevin Thibeault went 2-for-2 with a double. Advertisement 9-10-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Gold Hill, Desmond Harrington threw a four-hitter as the Medford Nationals secured the second seed out of District 8 pool play with a 7-3 victory over Grants Pass Americans. Grants Pass Nationals claimed the No. 1 seed with a 4-0 record in pool play. Jack Walker had a double and two singles for Medford, and Isaac Debow and Daniel Scottow both added two RBIs. The Medford Nationals (2-1) face Gold Valley today at 6 p.m. in the final pool-play contest and will advance to the semifinals on Thursday. Central Point improved to 3-0 with an 18-2 victory over Illinois Valley. Robbie Grabowski hit two doubles for Central Point and went 3-for-4. Brookings-Harbor picked up the last win of the day against Rogue River, 4-3. 11-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Gold Hill, the Medford Nationals defeated Gold Valley, 3-2; Central Point beat the Medford Federals, 9-4; and the Grants Pass Americans blanked Illinois Valley 17-0. District 6 11-12-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Klamath Falls, Medford American Blue opened pool play at the all-star tournament with a 9-0 victory over Upper Rogue. Medford used four pitchers to two-hit Upper Rogue with Michael Bradshaw recording the win. Malcom Purdy provided a big blow offensively with a bases-loaded triple for Medford, while Matt Maurer blasted a two-run home run and Cody James added a solo shot. Medford American Blue continues pool play today at 6 p.m. against Medford American Red. 9-10-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Klamath Falls, Medford American Red won its opening game of pool play with a 15-0 shutout of Or-Cal. Matt Retzlaff was 2-for-3 for the Red with three RBIs. Jack Singler and Sam Reid were both 2-for-2 with Reid knocking in two runs. The Medford Red continues play again today at 6 p.m. against tournament host South Suburban.
