He has held his present position since 1995. When Alford assumed leadership of the credit union it had just under 25,000 members, loans of $70.9 million and total assets of $91.3 million. Today, RFCU has 40,000 members in Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties, a loan portfolio of $300 million and nearly $370 million in assets. During Alford's tenure, RFCU expanded to five branch offices and a mortgage loan center and added Internet banking as well as investment and insurance services. He fostered partnerships with Ashland and South Medford high schools and Phoenix Elementary School. Alford earned a bachelor's degree in business at Northwest Christian College. In 1985, he was the second Oregonian to receive the Certified Credit Union Executive designation. Alford has been active with Southern Oregon Goodwill Industries, Asante Health System, Medford YMCA and Consumer Credit Counseling. He served on the Jackson County Budget Committee, the South Medford Interchange Committee for the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Medford/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce board of directors. Alford has served on the Renaissance Commission of the Credit Union National Association, chaired the board of directors of the Northwest Corporate Credit Union and received the Credit Union Association of Oregon's Distinguished Service Award for Professional of the Year and the credit union Advocate of the Year awards.
