Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 13, 2005 Meth Watch: Suspect sought on theft, several meth charges EDITOR'S NOTE: Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon, in cooperation with the Mail Tribune and KTVL Channel 10, is participating in "Meth Watch," a program intended to combat the manufacture and sales of methamphetamine in Southern Oregon. Each week, Meth Watch will focus on a person wanted by Jackson or Josephine county law-enforcement agencies for delivery and/or manufacture of methamphetamine. John Howard Bell is wanted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department for manufacturing, delivering and possessing methamphetamine. He was indicted in January 2004 following an investigation by the Jackson County Narcotics Enforcement Team. Bail on the warrant is $50,000. Bell is described as a white man, 44 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 155 pounds. He has light brown or blond hair and hazel eyes. Bell may be using the alias of John Howard Richmond Bell. The picture shown in today’s newspaper was taken in September 2003. The Ashland Police Department also holds a felony warrant for Bell’s arrest alleging first-degree theft. The bail on that warrant is $10,000. Those who have seen Bell or have information of his whereabouts are asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon at 800-3-DETECT (800-333-8328) and refer to case MT/MW-152. Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case or any other unsolved criminal activity. Callers can remain anonymous. The reward is sponsored by Sonitrol of Southern Oregon. In conjunction with Meth Watch, the Mail Tribune is compiling weekly statistics to demonstrate the effects of methamphetamine on our community. Arrests — Thirteen people were arrested last week and lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of possessing meth. Five arrests were in conjunction with other criminal charges. Court appearances — Ten people appeared in Jackson County Circuit Court last week on meth-related charges. Nine had been indicted on charges of possessing meth, and one had been indicted on charges of possessing, delivering and manufacturing meth. Two defendants’ indictments included other criminal charges. Child welfare — The local child welfare office of the state Department of Human Services removed three children from one home last week and placed them into protective custody due to meth use in the family. Addiction recovery — Eighteen meth addicts entered outpatient treatment last week at OnTrack Inc. Two meth addicts completed inpatient treatment last week at Addictions Recovery Center. Four people were admitted last week to ARC’s sobering center while under the influence of meth.
