Marist downs Ashland in MWL volleyball Sep 10, 2016 12:00 AM A A EUGENE — Ashland had difficulty with a potent Marist front row and suffered a Midwestern League straight-set loss Friday at Marist High. The Spartans swept the match, 25-17, 25-16, 25-16. Alex Crane, an Ashland junior middle, led the attack with eight kills to go with four aces. Marina Tacconi, a senior outside hitter, added four kills and seven digs, while middle Lili Smith produced four blocks and four aces. Grizzly libero Julia Senestraro had a team-high 10 digs. Ashland dropped to 1-2 in the MWL and overall. Boys Soccer ASHLAND 4, HENLEY 1: At Ashland, the aggressive play of Ian Rinefort on both sides of the field set the tone for Ashland in the nonconference victory at Walter A. Phillips Field. The Grizzlies (3-1) led 4-0 at halftime. Joseph Wallner-Sentle opened the scoring in the fourth minute by beating two defenders on an attack and placing a shot in the lower-right corner of the net. Drew Kutcher scored on a header off Kai Cheval’s corner kick in the 25th minute. Then one-minute, later Bryce Rollins scored from 15 yards out to give Ashland a 3-0 lead. Alexander Dryland completed the scoring for the Grizzlies. Girls Soccer ASHLAND 2, HIDDEN VALLEY 0: At Ashland, Mary Wilson and Raisa Rich scored second-half goals for Ashland in the nonconference game. Ashland (2-2) outshot Hidden Valley, 17-6.
