ODFW schedules Diamond Lake ice fishing workshop Feb 20, 2014 12:00 AM A A SALEM — ODFW will show anglers how to make the best of snowy, icy conditions at a March 8 family ice fishing workshop on Diamond Lake. "It's easy for kids to participate," Mark Newell, ODFW outdoor skills coordinator said in a press release. "And if the fishing is a little slow, most of them enjoy the chance to play in the snow." Participants in the workshop will learn ice-fishing basics — safety on the ice, appropriate gear and how to use it, and how to care for and clean their catch. The cost of the workshop is $52 per adult and $12 per child younger than 18. This includes the use of equipment and instruction. Lunch is not included. Children younger than 13 do not need a fishing license to participate, but adults must have a valid Oregon fishing license, and youth ages 14 to 17 will need an Oregon juvenile angling license. Youth must be accompanied by a paying adult. For more information about the workshop, and to register, see the ODFW website at http://bit.ly/1eyRvDX Correction: The headline has been corrected to show the lake where the workshop will be.
