RAIDERS ROUNDUP Southern Oregon men snap basketball losing streak By FRANK SILOW ASHLAND -- Southern Oregon used a balanced attack to snap a three-game losing streak with an 86-59 victory against Puget Sound Christian in non-conference men's basketball Tuesday at McNeal Pavilion. The Raiders placed four players in double figures, with Tom Chipps and Barron Lacy leading the way with 13 points each. Ryan Valley and Dave Arbow contributed 11 apiece. Southern Oregon (2-3) broke open a close game with a 13-4 run midway through the first half en route to a 42-19 lead before halftime. The Raiders shot better than 50 percent (32-63) from the field for the game and limited Puget Sound to just 25 percent (15-60). Two former Grants Pass High players -- Obie Strickler and Scott Logue -- came off the bench and provided valuable efforts for the Raiders. Strickler, a freshman point guard, had a team-high seven assists, while Logue pounded the boards for five rebounds to go with eight points. Wrestling UC DAVIS 26, SOUTHERN OREGON 18 -- At Redding, Calif., Southern Oregon received pins from its top two returning wrestlers, Ryan Escobar (125) and Matt Armstromg (165), but couldn't overcome an early deficit in its dual meet opener at Shasta High. UC Davis reeled off three straight wins to open the meet. But Armstrong's pin followed by a 5-3 overtime victory by Brian Samhammer cut the Aggies' lead to five points. The Aggies received decisions by Mark Pisoni (184) and Mike Maben (197) in pivotal matches to secure the victory. "They were a little overpowering," Southern Oregon coach Mike Ritchey said. "We just didn't pull through in some matches that we needed. We'll take this in stride and get ready for the next one."
