The event is one of several events scheduled in Jackson County to honor veterans. The free concert, which begins at 6:30 p.m., features the Swing Kings Big Dance Band and the 60-piece Southern Oregon Concert Band. The armory is at 1701 South Pacific Highway. The Thursday events begin with a special ceremony starting at 9:45 a.m. at the Department of Veterans Affairs Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics in White City. The event, scheduled to be completed at 11 a.m., will be held in the facility’s theater. The speaker will be Brad Barton, a national officer with the Disabled American Veterans group. He will pay tribute to Oregonians killed in the Iraq war. Advertisement The Grants Pass High School band and dance team will provide a patriotic performance. A Veterans Day parade will be begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday in Medford with parade participants stepping out at Hawthorne Park, then traveling down Main Street past the Jackson County Courthouse. The final event of the day begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park located at the corner of Stewart Avenue and Highway 99 in Medford. Speakers include retired Army general David Trump, DAV state president Tammy Little and Kenneth Chesney, a corporal with the local Young Marines program. The program also features several other events, including a color guard and music. Also this week, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners plans Wednesday to proclaim the U.S. Air Force KC-97 plane at the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport a memorial to all U.S. veterans. The large, four-engine silver plane has been parked off Biddle Road northwest of the airport. County owned, it has been converted into a meeting room.
