Jones, 20, suffered head trauma and a broken pelvis, according to report from the university’s sports information office. Two other OSU students from Jackson County — Bryan Austad, 18, of Jacksonville, and Brittany Risser, 18, of Medford — were also struck in the accident, but were treated at a local hospital and released. Advertisement "Meghan’s family, along with the gymnastics team and Oregon State University, thanks everyone for their support, concern and prayers," Oregon State Athletic Director Bob DeCarolis said. "Right now, everyone’s focus is on Meghan’s recovery." According to a report in today’s edition of the Corvallis Gazette-Times, Jones was walking with two other students early Saturday night when they were hit by a minivan driven by Myrna Taylor, 45, of Albany. Austad and Risser weren’t fully hit by the car, according to the newspaper, and suffered minor injuries. Jones was scheduled to be transferred to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland for further treatment. Taylor, the driver of the van, was arrested at the scene on drunk driving and assault charges. Jones is beginning her sophomore year at Oregon State, where she is studying exercise and sports science. She graduated from Phoenix High in 2001 and joined the Beavers gymnastics squad as a walk-on freshman. Last year, her teammates named her most consistent gymnast in vaults after she hit all 12 in competition, scoring a season high of 9.70. She also competes in bars and beam events, and her season high last year was 9.65 in both.
