How long now have the daily highs been above average, and what is the local record for consecutive days above average? — Lawrence A., Medford   It got pretty toasty there for a bit, huh, Lawrence?  The National Weather Service tells us that the last time we were at or below average for a high temperature was June 3. For at least the next 34 days — a stretch that ran to Tuesday, July 7 — we were above average for temperatures.  "As a whole, temperatures since June 3 have been above average," meteorologist Marc Spilde said. Spilde added that the average temperature, or the daily average of high and low temperatures, has also been above average during that same time frame. None of that's surprising, considering June 2015 is officially the hottest Medford June on record since the Weather Service started keeping records in 1911.  The average high  for June 2015 was 91.3 degrees, more than nine degrees above the month's typical 82-degree average high temperature. That topples the previous June high-temperature record of 91.1 degrees, set in 1918.   As to your question about the local record for consecutive days above average, that would require quite a bit of time to look through. Spilde said the agency doesn't have a query or program to nail down data like that, and that a string of above-average high temperatures could occur at any time during the year, not necessarily an occasion just reserved for the summer months. That said, we're confident the 30-plus day stretch we just experienced is right up there. Rogue Valley air conditioners definitely earned their overtime last month.  Send questions to “Since You Asked,” Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
