Butte Falls dominates Elkton in Sky A tourney SUTHERLIN - Butte Falls put a defensive clamp on Elkton at the Skyline A League District Tournament Saturady at Sutherlin High. Butte Falls sophomore post Sarah Matthews dominated inside as the Loggers defeated the Elks 52-32 to gain the Skyline A League No. 2 spot at the girls Class 1A state tournament. The Loggers (20-4) will open the state tournament at Baker City at 1 p.m. Feb. 28 against co-No. 1-ranked Condon, champion of the Big Sky League. Matthews, who scored 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds against the Elks, and sophomore point guard Brianna Smeltz were selected to the all tournament team. Butte Falls took a 12-7 first-quarter lead and just added to the margin. The Loggers led by as many as 26 points in the fourth quarter. Rawley, a junior post, scored 10 points and hauled down six rebounds.
