The ongoing war in Iraq has some in government floating the concept of renewing the military draft. Last week, we asked: "Should the United States consider bringing back the military draft?" Opinion was mixed, as you might expect. Meanwhile, remember to take part in this week’s poll by answering our new question. Advertisement You bet your DRAFT; we need it. We are raising some confused overweight youth with constant entertainment. This easy life has fooled generations of Americans. — Marga Draheim, Medford We should reinstate the draft immediately after the (insurgents) start landing at Gold Beach. — Mark It took the Army almost 30 years to get straightened out after the last draft. It's a proven fact that an all volunteer educated military develops the professionals needed for modern warfare, including peace keeping. — Neills No draft! America should never have invaded Iraq in the first place. Bush should pull our troops out, apologize and hope the U.N. takes over. — Allen Hallmark, Ashland Two words ...NO WAY! — Patti Busse, Ashland Since the Bush administration seems intent on keeping the U.S. in a permanent state of war it seems likely that a draft is inevitable. — Larry Laitner, Ashland The reasoning behind a draft is so all classes will serve. Rich people buy their son's way out of the military. Just look at Bush. — Marilyn Gill, Rogue River At this point, I don't think we need the draft and I really hope it won't become become a necessity. — June, Medford Forcing people to fight in a war against their will doesn't really help anyone. ALL able-bodied young men should go to boot camp, so the militia can be called to serve quickly. The salary for those who enlist should be increased, if necessary, to bring in enough volunteers.
