Shady Cove council plans to tackle road realignment SHADY COVE � The City Council Thursday will discuss whether it wants to continue plans to relocate an intersection through property that�s earmarked for a custom manufactured home. The City Council meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 22451 Highway 62, Shady Cove. The city wants to realign Rene and Rogue River drives through a corner lot that Todd Harper, of Medford, recently purchased for a home that�s built and ready for shipment. Harper had cleared boulders and built a concrete pad for the home when the city red-tagged the lot last month. City officials said the property owner sold the lot without disclosing negotiations about the proposed road. "We didn�t take the money and run," said property owner Erlene Thomson, who sold the lot to family friends. Negotiations were verbal � the city had no maps, surveys, engineer reports or written offers, she said. "They never approached us with a dollar figure," Thomson said. When Thomson learned of the city�s stop-work order, she offered to buy the lot back from Harper. But Harper didn�t want to sell. Then Thomson offered to sell the city another piece of property she owns nearby in exchange for moving the road away from Harper�s corner lot, she said. Thomson also researched the city�s 1997 Transportation Plan and was told by a city planner that the proposed Rene Drive extension is not on the city�s future street map. While the .92-acre lot that Harper owns is not part of the Transportation Plan, a lot that Thomson owns next door is on the map, she said. It could be impacted if the city straightens the curves on Rogue River Drive in the future. Thomson said she is eagerly awaiting the council�s decision. "We�ll do anything we can to get those kids in their new home by Christmas," Thomson said.
