The Irish made 8 of 11 shots to begin the game and led 21-19 at the end of the opening period. But Cascade Christian reversed the early momentum and came away with a 58-53 triumph in Southern Cascade League boys basketball. The victory keeps Cascade Christian (10-10, 7-3 SCL) one game in front of Chiloquin for the league’s third and final state playoff berth. The Challengers posted a one-point win Friday at Chiloquin. "We started off a little flat off our big emotional win last night," Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse said. "We were matching baskets, but weren’t stopping them at all early." Ben Kinney sparked Cascade in the third with three of the Challengers’ seven steals in the period. Kinney tallied all seven of his points in the quarter. The Challengers built a lead of as large as 12 points with about 2½ minutes to go before the Irish hit some late shots. Senior post Isaac Hoffman paced the Challengers with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Freshman forward Josh Heidegger helped the Challengers to a 36-24 margin on the boards with a team-best 10 rebounds. "It would have been devastating to our playoff hopes to lose this game," concluded Morse. RIDDLE (53) — Ross 0, Swett 14, Cooper 0, Linton 0, Hanson 3, D.
