Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 13, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 13, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News April 13, 1915 Youths Stole Many Chickens Lloyd Wolgamott, George and Fred Anderson, brothers, and Cecil Randall, all about 17 years of age, were arrested by the police this morning as members of an alleged gang of chicken thieves who have been raiding east side chicken coops the last 10 days. Other members of the gang, which is alleged to have carried on a systematic robbery of hen houses, are scheduled for this afternoon. The boys will be given a hearing tomorrow morning.  Wolgamott is alleged to have been the leader and "fence" of the gang, disposing of the chickens, after they had been stolen by the others. Most of the fowls, the police say, were marketed at the Medford Poultry company. In their operations, the lads stole in the neighborhood of $200 worth of chickens, which they sold at trivial figures. The gang always worked at night, and their depdations were confined to the east side. They made one spree into the Eagle Point district. Friday night they raided the roosts of Dick Singler, but were frightened by the family dog. This is the third case of juvenile delinquency in the city in the last 10 days.   Poachers Lose Suit for Confiscated Nets The Rains brothers of Grants Pass, convicted a year ago of illegal fishing in Rogue River, the conviction afterwards being reversed on appeal to a higher court, lost their suit in the justice court at Grants Pass Monday, against Game Wardens Sam Sandry and Fred Merrill, for $450 for the confiscation of nets and a boat used as evidence in the case. The case attracted considerable interest, as it opened a loophole for similar suits by game violators. The court instructed the jury, after all the evidence was submitted, to bring in a verdict in favor of the defendants. Sandry and Merrill were represented by County Attorney E.E. Kelly of this city, and Attorney Miller of Grants Pass.
