Paul Scott Brewer, 51, of Eagle Point, appeared Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, delivering methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail. Bail was set at $30,000, a jail spokeswoman said. "We believe (Brewer) is a major methamphetamine dealer in the valley," Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. Another resident of the home in the 16000 block of Highway 62 also was arrested when several police officers swarmed the residence at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Jennie Elizabeth Jones, 57, faces charges of possessing, delivering and manufacturing methamphetamine. She was being held late Wednesday on $25,000 bail. Moran said the arrests were the result of a long investigation led by MPD’s Gang and Street Drugs Unit, part of a Jackson County task force that gets federal funding to target drug cases. Advertisement Moran said MPD’s SWAT team joined drug agents at the Highway 62 home because of Brewer’s previous brushes with the law. In 1989, Brewer was shot in the abdomen by a Central Point police officer during an altercation at a gas station. Brewer was armed with a .22 caliber rifle at the time, but prosecutors were not able to prove he fired his weapon at the officer. He eventually pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and was sentenced to a six-month jail term. On Wednesday, police seized 16 firearms from Brewer’s home, Moran said. Several were loaded assault rifles, he said. Also found in the home were 2 pounds and 2 ounces of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $40,000, other precursor substances for manufacturing methamphetamine and $6,500 in cash, Moran said.
