Holland fourth in indoor mile for Ducks By Mail Tribune staff Feb 13, 2021 03:10 PM A A FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Oregon freshman EJ Holland, from Ashland, placed fourth in the mile Saturday during the Tyson Invitational indoor track and field meet at the University of Arkansas. Holland’s time was 3 minutes, 59.95 seconds. He was the top finisher for the top-ranked Ducks. Senior teammate Austin Tamagno was seventh in 4:04.83. Eliud Kipsang, an Arkansas freshman, won in 3:56.88. Oregon’s top middle-distance runners competed a day earlier on Friday, with smashing success. Senior Cooper Teare dropped the blazing time of 3:50.39 to smash the NCAA and school indoor record in the mile and become the seventh-fastest performer in world history. With their performances, both Teare and Duck sophomore Cole Hocker (3:50.55) clocked in under the previous NCAA record of 3:52.01 set by 17-time NCAA champion Edward Cheserek in 2017. Hocker checks in at No. 8 on the all-time world list. The Ducks’ Charlie Hunter, third in the race, added another top-tier showing with his time of 3:53.49, which lowered his own Australian national record in the indoor mile. EJ Holland / file photo
