North Medford Athletic Director Tim Sam set the wheels in motion over the past year and recently announced the 13 new inductees who will join more than 100 honorees previously elected to the Medford Sports Hall of Fame that will be grandfathered into the Black Tornado Hall of Fame. The new inductees include Steph Adams (softball), Taysha Anderson (softball), Jeff Barry (baseball), Missy Coe (softball), Kerry Curtis (multisport), Rob Folsom (multisport), Megumi Hackett (softball), Tom Marier (coach), Nicole Milne (softball), Ralph Monroe (coach), KC Rumrey (multisport), Sara Rumrey (multisport) and Steve and Carolyn West (exceptional contributions). In all, 117 members of the Black Tornado Hall of Fame will be recognized during North Medford’s football game on Sept. 19 against Roseburg and a day later at a 5 p.m. banquet at Rogue Valley Country Club. Tickets for the banquet are on sale at NorthMedford.universitytickets.com. Adams played softball for North Medford from 1996-99, earning first-team all-conference all four years to go with all-state honors. Her teams went 111-10-1 with two state championships as well as one runner-up finish. Adams continued her career at Oregon State, where she was a four-year starter at first base and in the outfield. Anderson played softball for the Black Tornado from 1995-98, earning first-team all-conference honors three times, including pitcher of the year in 1997 and ‘98, and was also an all-state honoree three times. Anderson led the Black Tornado to two state titles and one runner-up showing and she owns four Black Tornado career pitching records (games played, wins, ERA, least walks) and three season records (ERA, least runs, least walks). Anderson went on to letter in all four years at the University of Hawaii-Hilo. Barry played football, basketball and baseball for the Black Tornado in 1985-86, the final year of Medford Senior High School before the district split into two high schools. That year, Barry was the quarterback for the 1985 state championship football team, garnering all-state honors, and started on the varsity basketball and baseball teams. He was an all-state player for the state runner-up baseball team and went on to play college baseball at San Diego State University. He was drafted in the fourth round of the MLB draft and played professional baseball for 13 years. Sara Rumrey-Barry was a three-sport athlete for North Medford from 1988-91 and earned nine varsity letters in volleyball, basketball and softball. She was named all-conference twice in volleyball and softball, and was named all-state in volleyball in 1990 and in softball in 1991. After playing college volleyball and softball at George Fox University, she returned to lead the Black Tornado softball team to a conference championship in 2001. Missy Coe-Doerr played softball for the Black Tornado from 1995-98 and was a three-time all-state selection and four-time all-conference honoree. Her teams finished the state playoffs as the runner-up once and the state champions twice. She went on to a standout softball career at the University of Oregon, and also returned home to coach the Black Tornado softball team in 2005. Curtis was a three-sport athlete for the Black Tornado in 1991-94 in football, basketball and baseball. He was a three-year starter in football, finishing his senior year as the school’s single season record holder for rushing yards and touchdowns. He was an all-state running back who led North Medford to the 1993 state championship game, as well as an all-conference baseball player who played baseball at Portland State University. Folsom played football, baseball and wrestled for North Medford from 2001-04, earning 12 varsity letters. In football, Folsom earned all-state recognition and played on the state runner-up teams in 2001 and ‘04. In wrestling, he was a three-time district champion and state runner-up in 2003 and ‘04. In baseball, Folsom was twice named conference player of the year and was a three-time all-state selection who went on to play baseball at Oregon State University. Hackett was a four-year starting shortstop in softball for North Medford from 1996-99, earning first-team all-state recognition as a junior and senior and was named the 1998 state player of the year. Hackett is the all-time Black Tornado leader in seven offensive categories after a high school career that saw her teams win two state titles and finish second at state once, going 110-10-1 overall. She continued her softball career at Portland State University. Marier, who passed away last November, coached football, basketball and baseball for the Black Tornado from 1957 to 2000, and was an assistant coach for eight state championship teams. Milne played softball for the Black Tornado from 1982-85 and twice was an all-state selection. Her team won four straight conference championships, as well as a state championship in her junior year, and she is in 12 of the Black Tornado’s top-10 career offensive categories. Milne continued her softball career for two years each at Taft Junior College and Oregon State University. Monroe, who passed away in 2012, coached football and wrestling for the Black Tornado from 1962-76. During that time, he produced 12 state champions. In 1969, the Black Tornado wrestling team saw two members earn state titles and another finish as runner-up to help it finish third overall at the state tourney. KC Rumrey played football, basketball and baseball for North Medford from 1995-98. In football, he was selected to the all-conference teams for three years, setting single game and career passing records. In basketball, he received all-conference recognition. In baseball, he was an all-conference and all-state pitcher and outfielder, and was named the state’s player of the year in 1998. Rumrey went on to play baseball at Oregon State University and Western Baptist. Steve and Carolyn West have contributed to the weight room, baseball and softball facilities at North Medford as well as numerous athletic scholarships through their West Foundation and West Family Scholarships. They have also helped with a variety of cheer-related items as well as rooter busses for road games.
