Rogue Valley residents can expect rain possibly followed by up to an inch of snow on the valley floor Wednesday night during a storm front expected to move into the region Tuesday evening. Most of the snow Tuesday night will be at 2,000 feet and higher elevations, with heavier snow expected higher in the Cascades Tuesday evening and again Wednesday evening after a mix of rain and snow during the day Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. The Weather Service is predicting another 15 inches of snow by Wednesday afternoon for Crater Lake, Diamond Lake and Lake of the Woods. Six inches is forecast for Interstate 5's Siskiyou Summit by Wednesday evening, and 1 to 2 inches for Ashland. Medford is forecast to receive rain through Wednesday afternoon, but snow levels could drop to the 1,000-foot level Wednesday night, bringing anywhere from a dusting of snow to an inch in Medford, forecasters said. "But even then we are not 100 percent confident that it will snow in Medford," Weather Service meteorologist Misty Firmin said. The storm system is coming out of the north and bringing cold temperatures with it, Firmin said. Medford is forecast to see a low of 33 degrees Tuesday night, followed by a high of 42 Wednesday, then dropping to 28 degrees Wednesday night and into early Thursday, according to the Weather Service. Ashland is forecast to see a low of 31 degrees Tuesday night, followed by a high of 39 Wednesday and a low of 26 late Wednesday night, the forecast states. A mix of rain and snow is expected through Wednesday for passes on Highway 199 near the Oregon/California border, with an inch forecast through Wednesday at Hayes Hill outside of Jacksonville, the Weather Service states.
