Mail Tribune Online Thursday Jan 1, 2004 at 2:00 AM Dec 18, 2010 at 3:00 AM Charles Lee Peffers Charles Lee Peffers, 72, of White City, died December 14, 2003 in Bullhead, AZ. — The Memorial service will be held Monday, January 5, 2004 at 12:45 p.m. at the V.A. in Eagle Point. Chris J. Naranjo Jr. of Butte Creek Baptist Church will officiate. Funeral service will follow at — p.m at the V.A. Cemetery. — Charles was born July 29, 1931 in Newark, Ohio, son to Ira and May Peffers. — Mr. Peffers served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years as a teacher before retiring to live in Oregon. He lived in the Butte Falls area for 20 years. — He was married to Sylvia Peffers, who survives him. — Charles was active in his community. He enjoyed reading, traveling and fishing. He worked for Gas-4-Less for several years. — Survivors, in addition to his wife, Sylvia, include: his sons, Charles Lee Peffers II of Vackerville, CA and John Ira Peffers of Medford; daughter, Lisa; sister, Louise; and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ira Peffers, Jr. — David L. Wilbur David L. Wilbur, 64, of Central Point, died on December 25, 2003 at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held at a later date. — David was born on Nov. 17, 1939 in California to Robert and Francis Wilbur. — He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He was stationed in Japan. — He lived in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California, working as a printer for Earl Hayes Press. In 1996, he moved to the Rogue Valley. — After waiting 40 years, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Starkel on June 14, 1997 in Gold Hill. — He enjoyed travel, nature, reading, movies, and landscaping. — Survivors include: his wife, Marilyn; six children, David Wilbur II, Jessica Wilbur, Craig Horsley, Nina Dutton, Angela Bergmann, and Kathryn Horsley; one sister, Bobbie Teehan; and four grandchildren, Brent Horsley, Adam Horsley, Nicole Horsley, and Joseph Horsley. — He was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Horsley. Dessie A. Cummings Dessie A. Cummings, 89, of Eureka, CA, died December 29, 2003. She was active in many civic and philanthropic groups. — She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cummings; daughter, Darlene; and her son, William. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Auster and Donna& 39;s husband, Larry; Son-in-law, Gene Bartlett; as well as, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. — Private services will be in Medford. Ellen Shumate Ellen Glenda Shumate, 81, of Central Point, died Friday (Dec. 26, 2003) at home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, at 4 p.m. at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God. Pastor Bud Coffman will officiate. Inurnment to be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. — She was born May 23, 1922 in Beaver Hill, OR, the daughter of John and Dora Abbott. She married Ivan Shumate who died in 1969. — Ellen moved to the valley in 1960 from Coquille. She had worked as a chef for many years and was a member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God. — Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Hospice, 1180 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504. — She is survived by — children: Glenda Shull and Mark Shumate both of Central Point and Jeff Shumate; a brother, Earl Abbott of Martinez, CA; a sister, Nora Howell of Gearhart; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. — She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin West. — Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel. Glen C. Cooper Glen C. Cooper, of Central Point, died Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the age of 60. — Glen was born April 22, 1943 to Howard and Dorothy Cooper in Glendale, OR. Glen was preceded in death by his father, Howard Cooper, mother, Dorothy Wade, and a brother, Ronald Cooper. — Glen was in the Army in 1960 to 1963. He left the army to raise a family. He was a truck driver for 40 years before retiring in 1996. He continued living in the Rogue Valley and enjoyed hunting and fishing. — His most favorite and cherished moments were the times he spent with his three children, Dennis and Richard Cooper, both of Central Point, and Tina Krause of Talent; and nine grandchildren, Trista, Chris, Andrew, Brittany, Matthew, Douglas, Stacy, Heather and Leigha, all from the Rogue Valley. — Glen was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be truly missed by all of his family and friends. — In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made to Hillcrest Memorial Park, c/o Glen C. Cooper. — Leo C. Wine The funeral for Leo Curtis Wine will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the Faith Tabernacle, Ashland. Officiating will be Pastor Curtis Wine. Interment will follow at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. — Mr. Wine, 82, of Medford, formerly Ashland, died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. — Mr. Wine was born June 12, 1921 at Nampa, ID, the son of Lola and Ernest Wine. The family moved to Ashland from Sunnyside, WA in 1938. On July 26, 1942 at Klamath Falls, OR he married the former Anna Mae Sharpe who preceded him in death in 1987. Together they co-pastored churches in Lake Creek, OR and later Grants Pass. In 1944 they founded Faith Temple, which later became Faith Tabernacle in Ashland. In 1960 they founded the Christian Radio Station KDOV broadcasting as an outreach of Faith Tabernacle. The station continues broadcasting today. Pastor Wine retired after 50 years from Faith Tabernacle, passing the ministry to his son, Curt Wine in 1994. — On August 16, 1987 in Ashland, Pastor Wine married the former Frances Gail Rogers, who survives. Following his retirement from the church, Mr. and Mrs. Wine served on missionary projects in the Philippines, Africa, Costa Rica, and Mexico. They lived in Florida for — years before returning to the Rogue Valley 1999. — Surviving in addition to his wife are: one son, Curtis Wine of Ashland; 2 daughters, Bonita Amaral of Talent and Cheri Buchmiller of Lodi, CA; 4 step-sons, John, Jim, and Jeff Rogers all of Medford, and Mark Rogers of Manhattan, NY; — brothers, Victor K. Wine of Medford; Emory L. and Ernest Jasper Wine both of Lake Wales, FL; 2 sisters Esther M. Haas of Lakeland, FL and Lilah M. Boaz of Medford; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. One son, Richard and 2 grandchildren preceded him in death. — Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland. Mark T. Adams Mark T. Adams, of Eagle Point, died Dec. 29, 2003 after a long battle with lung cancer. — He was born on March 21, 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska. His family moved to Southern California in 1933. He served in the U.S. Navy on board an aircraft carrier in the Korean War. He was sales manager for several companies in Southern California. He moved to Hamburg, California, where he owned and operated Rainbow Resort for ten years. He came to the Rogue Valley in 1985 to manage Star Ranch. He and his wife wintered in Arizona, and they traveled a lot, including two trips to South Africa. — He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean and her son, Richard. Also surviving him are his three children from his first marriage: his daughter, Lynn, and her sons, Dustin, Adam, and Brian from Henderson, Nevada; his son, Mark, and his sons, Dylan and Mark Christopher of Ashland; and his daughter, Lori and her son, Alexander from La Habra, CA. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Frances D. Adams and his sister, Joan Jensen, who have lived in Eagle Point since 1982. — There will be private memorial services. Arlene M. Coffman Arlene M. Coffman, 85, of Central Point, died Wednesday, at a local foster care home. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives. Lucy Barr Lucy Barr, 91, of the Medford and Jacksonville area from 1966 to 2003, died Dec. 28, 2003 at her daughter& 39;s home in Portland. Graveside service will be — p.m., Fri., Jan. 2, 2004 at Hillcrest Memorial, Medford. Marie Voulgaris Marie Voulgaris, 94, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 2003) at a Medford care home.
