Black Tornado ease past South Medford Prep roundup North Medford nearly registered its third shutout of the season in Southern Oregon Conference girls tennis action by defeating South Medford 8-1 Saturday at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park. The undefeated Black Tornado improved to 5-0 in the SOC, while South dropped to 0-4. North juggled its lineup against the Panthers, playing No. 1 singles player Jenny Brown in the No. 2 doubles spot and moving its top doubles team of Ali Mostue and Christie Brawner into singles. Leslie Schultz stepped up for the Black Tornado and defeated Stephanie Cohee, 6-2, 6-0 in the top singles spot. Mostue and Brawner both won their singles matches as did Brown in doubles with partner Marlie Hilmer. South's lone victory came from Megan Gerking in No. 5 singles. SINGLES -- Leslie Schultz, NM, d. Josh Copehart-Bryan Coe, 6-0, 6-0. Track GLIDE INVITATIONAL -- At Glide, St. Mary's junior Nick Amaranthus had an impressive performance in this major small-school meet. Amaranthus won the 200-meters with a life-time best time of 23.2, finished second in the 100 (11.3) and anchored the Crusaders' winning 400-relay. Other members on the relay team were Alex Duncan, Kawika Victor and Jordan Frimkess. Trevor Coolidge picked up a victory for St. Mary's in the 3,000 with a life-time best of 9:14.7.
