Dons snap Oregon's win streak The Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO -- The 22nd-ranked Oregon women's basketball team saw its three-game win streak come to an end Sunday as Sarah Wanless scored a career-high 26 points and San Francisco beat the Ducks 66-60 at War Memorial Gym. Wanless made two crucial plays over the last five minutes as the Dons (6-5) defeated a ranked opponent for the first time since 1996. She hit a desperation 3-pointer from the top of the key to extend San Francisco's lead to 57-53. Then she blocked a shot at the other end and saved it while falling out of bounds -- which led directly to a layup by teammate Melanie Turner. Oregon (9-3) got within 62-60 with 1:13 left, but the Dons scored the game's final four points. San Francisco held the Ducks' leading scorer, Shaquala Williams, to six points on 3-of-14 shooting. "They did a great job preparing for us," said Oregon coach Jody Runge. "They played with great passion. We played very tentatively against their zone." The Ducks' loss offset a big night by Brianne Meharry, who scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Oregon. "Bri(anne) played awesome," Runge said. Angelina Wolvert added 14 points while Nicole Strange had 12 for the Ducks. Lindsay Huff, who was 3-for-3 from 3-point range, had 13 points and six assists for San Francisco and Courtney Keegan finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Oregon, which held a 34-26 lead, went 1-for-13 from 3-point range, including Williams' 0-for-7. "Shaquala had some good looks but they just didn't go down for her," said Runge. "(But) other people have to step up and score." The Dons were 4-of-5 from 3-point range and 18-of-19 at the free-throw line. Wanless hit all 11 of her free throws and connected on 7 of 11 from the floor to earn her career high. Oregon's defense was able to hold the Dons' leading scorer, Carey Sauer, to only five points on 2-of-11 shooting. Oregon led 53-52 after a Williams jumper with 5:25 left, but the Dons went on a 10-0 run to take a 62-53 advantage with 3:04 remaining. The Ducks battled back and cut San Francisco's lead to 62-60 on two Strange free throws with 1:13 on the clock. Oregon, however, couldn't convert on the offensive end the rest of the way as the Dons pulled out the narrow victory. "It's been a tough trip on the road," said Runge, referring to the Ducks' seventh consecutive game away from Eugene. Oregon, which plays three more on the road before a Jan. 20 home game against Washington, has a 4-3 record so far on its 10-game road odyssey. The Ducks next take on in-state rival Oregon State to open Pac-10 Conference play. Tipoff for Saturday's game is 1 p.m. at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis.
