Crater routs Phoenix, remains unbeaten Friday Dec 29, 2017 at 2:00 AM MURPHY — Kiefer Edwards had 19 points and eight rebounds and Mason Vranes 18 points and three assists to lead undefeated Crater to a first-round rout of Phoenix, 63-36, in the Evergreen Federal Bank Christmas Classic Thursday at Hidden Valley High. Nathan Bittle, a 6-foot-7 freshman, added nine points, six rebounds and five blocks for the Comets (8-0), who outscored Phoenix 17-7 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 19 points. The Cavemen (4-4), who received 13 points from Tayler Phillips and 12 from Taylor Anderson, play Pendleton at 12:30 p.m. today in the three-day tournament. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 68, COQUILLE 59: At Salem, senior wing Joel McLemore scored 20 points and went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line to help Cascade Christian hold off previously undefeated Coquille in the first round of the Salem Academy Holiday Tournament. McLemore scored 10 points in the first quarter to help the Challengers (5-4) jump out to a 15-2 lead. The Red Devils whittled the deficit to four points with about three minutes to go, but Cascade Christian hit 8 of 9 free throws down the stretch to pull away. Tyler Cochran scored 14 points and Ben Dunn 12 for the Challengers, who will play Western Mennonite in the semis tonight. Seth Waddington led Coquille with 19 points and Colton GeDeros added 17.
