Marks pours in 31 to lead Raiders past Warner Pacific Sara Marks, a transfer from College of Eastern Utah -a junior college - established her third career-best outing over the past four home games with 31 points as the Raiders earned a 78-65 win over Warner Pacific Saturday. The Cascade Conference win improved the Raiders to 9-9 overall, 5-3 in conference. Marks, the reigning player of the week following 25 points against Cascade and 28 versus Concordia last weekend, converted 11 of 19 shots and eight of 10 free throws for the school's most prolific single-game output since 1996. "Sara is an exciting player, and I'm sure glad she's on our side," Raider coach Kevin Wilson said in a released statement. "She's a coach's dream because she'll do whatever it takes to get the job done." Despite Marks' efforts, which also included a season-high nine steals and seven assists, the Knights (4-17, 1-6 Cascade) were in contention for their first win in Ashland since 1989 until late in the game. The big reason was an 18-point, 10-rebound performance by freshman center Shawna Damon and 18 points and eight assists by sophomore guard Jennifer Haberly. The Portland school's shooting percentage hovered near 50 percent for the first 30 minutes, and it trimmed a 44-38 halftime deficit to two (59-57) with 10 minutes remaining. But an 8-0 Raider run, capped by a Marks steal followed by a driving layup, over the next four minutes helped seal the game. The Knights committed 29 turnovers that resulted in 35 Raider points. "When we're at our best is when we're forcing turnovers and pushing the ball up the floor," Wilson said. "On some nights our guards are like gnats and really bother opposing guards." SOU also received an 18-point effort off the bench from junior forward Kara Magee-Arick. The Raiders travel to Portland next weekend for league tilts at Concordia and Cascade. Men's Basketball SOUTHERN OREGON 79, NORTHWEST COLLEGE 70 - At Kirkland, Wash., SOU snapped a 12-game road losing streak by upending Northwest College in Cascade Conference action. The Raiders (8-12, 3-6 Cascade) hadn't won on the road since January of last season. A season-high four SOU players scored in double figures: Moses Olson (20), Jeff Tacheny (17), Brandon Knudsen (12) and Hamilton Barnes (11). The Raiders also shot a season-best 48 percent from the field, including 7-of-12 from 3-point distance, and made 20 of 24 free-throw attempts. Olson and Matt Zosel grabbed nine boards apiece to lead SOU to a 38-34 rebounding edge over Northwest (6-17, 2-9).
